The GRBC Calendar of Events is broken up into different sections that the user can interact with. The first section at the top of the Calendar after the title is the Navigation Bar of Figure 1. The Navigation Bar allows the user to toggle the calendar between different months and years. The bar displays the previous year, the months for the current year in chronological order and the next year. To move to a different year, simply select the previous or next year to go to that year. This can be done as many times in succession as needed to get to the desired year. To move to a different month, simply select the month desired to display the calendar for that month. The choices of the navigation bar may change depending on the calendar view selected. See the Adding an Event section for different calendar views.
A typical calendar view is broken up into several parts as seen in Figure 2. At the heading of the calendar will be the month selected. The current month is the default selection. Below the heading will be the weekdays for a full week beginning with Sunday. Below each weekday is its corresponding date. The current date is highlighted in red. Because the calendar is set to display a Sunday through Saturday full week, a week may break into a new month. Figure 2 displays the abbreviation for February and March on the same week to indicate the week is split between the two months. The week begins in February and ends Wednesday with the next day, Thursday, beginning the first day of March.
The calendar's footer, displayed in figure 3, contains various choices for setting the calendar range, view, and orientation as well as for adding an event or searching the calendar. The range of the calendar can be adjusted to display a single day, week, month or full year by selecting the approprate range setting. The default range for a calendar is a full month. The view of the calendar can also be adjusted. The default view is the block setting, which makes the calendar appear as a typical 30 day wall calendar. Figure 4 below shows an example of the list view. The condensed view is essentally the same as the list view but only shows the dates that have events. Dates without events are excluded. The orientation setting default is Abs. This displays the calendar with the current date wherever it belongs in relation to a month's view. The slide feature, however, moves the calendar view so that the current date appears in the first week of the calendar. For example, if today's date is the 20th of the month, it would appear in the 3rd week row in the Abs view but in the 1st week row in the slide view. This would mean that the next month would begin in the 3rd week row if the display range setting is set for a month's view.
The heart of the calendar is the ability to add events. There are several ways to do this. The quickest and easiest way is to click on the date number (figure 2) of the day you wish to add an event. This can also be done by selecting the daily choice from the add events section of the calendar footer noted in figure 3. When you select either method, you will be prompted to enter a user ID and password. Please see Scott Worron for that information if you need to obtain an ID and password or if you forgot it. Once you have entered the user ID and password, you will be presented with the screen of figure 5 below.
The view of figure 5 has many of the same choices as the calendar footer of figure 3. The selected date that was picked will be highlighted. You can change the selected date by choosing an alternate date from the 31 day list. If you wish to change your entry type from daily to either Duration or Periodic (discussed later), you can change your choice on this screen. If you which to change the month for your entry, your choices will be the previous month or the next month from the current month already selected. Simply click the desired month to make the change. The date selected will remain the same for the new month. If any calendar entries already exist on the date selected, they will be listed below the red date heading next to the create choice. Each event listed will have a choice next to it to either edit the event or delete it. You must have a security level high enough to make edits or deletions to an existing entry. At any time in this view, selecting the yellow view calendar button will return you to the calendar view. If you have made an entry, it will appear when you return to the calendar view. If once getting to this screen you wish to make no changes and simply want to continue with your entry, select the blue create button to continue to the next step. Doing so will take you to the screen of figure 6.
This describes the features of creating and editing entries for the calendar. It covers the features common to the date specific, periodic or duration entry forms. It also comments on navigation between the various edit forms. All Calendar Entries have the following features:
Navigating between date specific, periodic or duration entry forms. The navigation bar at the top allows you to go quickly to any daily, duration or periodic events. It is important to understand that a Submit of any create or update form will occur before navigating to another location. |
